History: SainTerre directors Matthew Colling and Ammon Franklin met the inventor of the Soilet, Kweku Anno, while working on an education-related project in rural Ghana. They quickly caught the vision of the importance of rural sanitation improvements, and how the Soilet could be a significant help. Upon their return to the United States in late 2008, Ammon and Matthew and a group of talented friends drew up a sustainable plan to bring the benefits of the Soilet to those who need them the most. They submitted their business plan to the Brigham Young University Social Venture Competition and won $19,000. Their plan also took them to the semi-finals in both the Dell Social Innovation Competition and the Tulane University Business Plan Competition. With that initial prize money, SainTerre was born.
